Girl Scout CEO Maria Wynne, formerly of Palatine, retiring

Maria Wynne, formerly of Palatine, will retire as CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, effective Dec. 31.

“We are grateful for the visionary leadership that Maria has provided during the first five years following our unprecedented merger of seven Girl Scout corporations into the single largest Girl Scout council in the country,” said Karen Layng, president and board chair.

The council serves 84,000 girls and 24,000 adult members and volunteers in 245 communities.

“I am honored to have served such an iconic organization, making a difference one girl at a time,” Wynne said. “We have introduced amazing, new programs that are inspiring girls to have fun exploring nontraditional careers in the worlds of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and business.”

Wynne, who now lives in Chicago, said that with consolidation largely accomplished, she wants to pursue a new challenge. Previously, she worked as an executive for Microsoft, Xerox, Ameritech and Moore Business Forms.
