Barrington delays video game vote

Barrington’s village board will not vote at its meeting Monday, Oct. 13 on a proposal allowing video gambling machines at businesses with liquor licenses in the village. Village President Karen Darch said she expects one or two trustees to be absent from the meeting, and added the board needs further time to consider the issue anyway. Several businesses requested the machines in order to stay competitive with similar businesses in nearby towns. But some people have also criticized the proposal, partly in fear they will inspire gambling addictions among people who don’t normally frequent casinos.
