Gala raises $300,000 for Advocate Good Shepherd modernization project

Submitted by Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital

The 2013 Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Gala held last month in Hoffman Estates raised more than $300,000 to support the Barrington area hospital's $247 million campus modernization plan.

The Sept. 21 fundraiser, themed “Nashville,” drew 367 attendees representing civic, corporate, and social communities from the Northwest suburbs and Chicago.

“We're so pleased with the gala's success,” said Dr. Peter Wuertz, co-chair of the 2013 Gala Committee. “It validates all the hard work of this committee and is an indicator of the community's confidence in, and support of the Campus Modernization Project at Good Shepherd Hospital.”

The project, which broke ground last week, will allow for private rooms for all patients, increased capacity of the hospital's intensive care unit and operating rooms large enough to accommodate today's state-of-the-art equipment. Construction is expected to take about four years.

Premiere sponsors at the gala, held at Stonegate Banquet and Conference Center in Hoffman Estates, included the Barrington Anesthesia Associates, GFX International/Chuck and Susan Huttingter, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Medical Staff, Francis J. and Patricia Ann Houlihan, Sage Products, The Duchossois Family Foundation, Barrington Bank and Trust/Great Lakes Advisors, Wauconda Care, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Morgan, Mortenson Construction/HOK, Bettye D. Traylor, and Wynnchurch Capital, Ltd./The Hatherly Family.

As guests drove up to the Stonegate entrance they were welcomed to “Nashville” by fiddlers, and during the cocktail hour they enjoyed music by Hudson-McCoy. To further support the Nashville theme, guests could also stop in the Bourbon Room for bourbon tastings. The Ron Bedal Orchestra, a wine auction with more than 100 bottles of wine, and unique raffle events made for a fun-filled evening. This year one of the distinctive auction items was a Nashville Experience, which included a stay at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, tickets to the Country Music Awards, Gift Certificate to Timmerman's Ranch, a Visa gift card and more.

“We had a vision of a fun, extraordinary evening and I believe we achieved that goal,” Gala co-chair Chuck Huttinger said. “Most importantly, a special thank you to all of our generous donors and to everyone who helped make this night a success.”

The Advocate Good Shepherd Gala has raised more than $3 million since its inception in 1997. The funds have helped shape the March to Magnet Journey, Women's Diagnostic Center, Spine Center of Excellence, Cancer Care Center and oncology-related programs, Cardiac Care Center and cardiac-related programs, Emergency Department expansion, Breast Care Center equipment, Patient Navigator Program, Congestive Heart Failure programs, as well as community-based healthy teen programs.
