Metropolis offers an exciting calendar of entertainment with several must-see shows lined up.
The musical comedy “Five Course Love” presents hilarious vignettes at various restaurants that will have you in stitches. You’ll drop in at an Italian bistro, Texas barbecue joint, Spanish cantina, roadside diner and German schnitzel house.
“This is the big show that we’re excited about,” said marketing director Hollis Sienkiewicz. “It’s a fun show with only three actors portraying 15 different characters.
“Another great aspect of the show is that we produced it ourselves. We hire actors and directors, and we put it together, which really makes it special.”
The popular Michael Ingersoll, who appeared in “Jersey Boys,” is back with a new show with his wife, Angela. “My Baby Just Cares for Me” will feel like you are in the couple’s home to enjoy an evening of great music from The Beatles, The Jackson Five, Patsy Cline, Sam Cook and more.
“Our patrons are really looking forward to this performance because they’re always asking when Michael Ingersoll will be back,” Sienkiewicz said.
Memorial Day activities include a concert and a salute tribute to veterans and servicemen. The patriotic event will feature music and readings in recognition of our soldiers. “It was a great event last year, and we’re pleased to do it again,” Sienkiewicz said. Proceeds will benefit the Memorial Park Fund.
The School of the Performing Arts presents “Charlotte’s Web” as one of its two annual shows. Kids will love Wilbur the pig, a little girl Fern and a spider named Charlotte. This is a delightful and touching story about friendship. Most student actors are in first through eighth grade. The show runs May 2 to May 4.
“These are really great productions. There are only about 20 roles, and we had more than 60 auditions,” Sienkiewicz said. The show is a little more than an hour and recommended for kids from pre-K through third grade.
Some upcoming events include Frank Ferrante in “An Evening with Groucho,” one of the great comedians that will have you laughing nonstop. “Harbor Lights: A Tribute to Doo Wop” brings you amazing music from groups such as The Drifters, Elvis and Buddy Holly.
In cooperation with the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, Metropolis features “From Page to Stage,” a free event that features interviews with popular authors. Next up is Vanessa Diffenbaugh author of “The Language of Flowers.” Register at the library.
The village’s thriving downtown area offers an eclectic mix of restaurants within walking distance of the theater. Parking is free on the street or in the parking garage behind the theater.
Metropolis is a nonprofit organization with many generous donors and sponsors that are crucial to its success.
