Aurora boy, 14, charged in shooting of a boy, 14

A 14-year-old Aurora boy suffered a serious gunshot wound to his leg when another 14-year-old Aurora boy apparently was showing off a gun he had found, police said.

The victim was taken to an Aurora hospital for treatment and later transferred to a suburban Chicago hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery, police said in a news release. Although serious, the injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

The other 14-year-old boy is in the Kane County Youth Home after being charged as a juvenile with reckless discharge of a firearm, police said.

The shooting occurred around 10:20 p.m. Friday in the area of Boulder Court and Blackstone Drive, in the DuPage County section of Aurora, police said.

The suspect apparently was showing the gun to the victim and two other Aurora boys, ages 15 and 17, neither of whom was hurt, police said.

Aurora police said that officers recovered the firearm inside the suspect’s home. They are continuing their investigation.
