Marmion honors cadets with military promotions

Marmion Academy’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program honored 40 cadets with military promotions at the annual Sabre Ceremony on Sept. 6.

These senior cadets were presented with a sabre (officers) or a sword (sergeants) by their parents or family, as they were promoted to the highest ranks in available in the JROTC program.

Marmion’s JROTC student leaders for the 2013-14 school year are as follows:

Battalion Commander Daniel Creighton of Geneva, Executive Officer Eric Lifka of Aurora, Adjutant John Graft of South Barrington, Information Officer Joseph Talbot of Plainfield, Operations Officer Zachary Siwiec of Aurora, Logistics Officer Jacob Schmidt of St. Charles, Command Sergeant Major Andrew Graves of Batavia, Personnel Sergeant Luke DeSimone of North Aurora, Information Sergeant Jake Fredstrom of Yorkville, Operations Sergeant Matthew Walz of Lisle, and Logistic Sergeant Lewis Trotsky of Yorkville.

Marmion’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a U.S. Army high school program. In the program, cadets learn to become better citizens through classes focusing on history, leadership, and oral communication.

They take part in military drill, inspections, and parades. As they advance through the ranks, they assume increasing responsibility for leadership among other cadets in their company.

The JROTC program supports a competitive Rifle Team and Drill Team. In addition, cadets can participate in an Adventure Platoon and a one week JROTC Summer Camp.
