Northwest Suburban Citizens Holds Affordable Care Act Forum

More than 50 people attended a public forum about health care reform and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at the Palatine Public Library on Tuesday, October 1st. The meeting was organized by Northwest Suburban Citizens, a nonpartisan grassroots volunteer organization dedicated to advancing meaningful and responsible discussions in the northwest suburban area.

Steven Tucker, a health care insurance broker with 17 years experience, licensed in multiple states, gave a riveting, video-assisted 90 minute presentation. He discussed in detail the flaws of the Affordable Care Act, and the advantages of private sector-based health care systems. One intriguing example was the case of John Mackey, co-CEO of Whole Foods, who angered some employees by dropping their health care plans and switching them to Health Savings Accounts. (HSA) Within a few years, as Tucker explained, the disgruntled employees had become ecstatic, each having accumulated from 10,000 to 50,000 unused dollars in their accounts.

Mr. Tucker also explained, in detail, the faulty mathematics used in the commonly-used claim that there are 45 million uninsured in America. "38% of the so-called uninsured live in households with incomes over 50,000", said Tucker, "and have no insurance because they choose not to buy it." He went on to point out other faults in the commonly-used statistic.

In attendance at the town hall was Matt Flamm, director of Northwest Suburbs Organizing for Action. Carol Ann Parisi, organizer of Northwest Suburban Citizens, invited Mr. Flamm and his health care reform team to have a meaningful and responsible discussion on the people's human right to health. The two agreed to a discussion between their two groups, on health care issues, at a date to be determined.

Video highlights of the event will be available after October 5, at AwakenAmerica.us. For more information call (312) 671-0909.
