Chicago unions plan rally against government shutdown

Union members in Chicago are planning a rally to protest a possible partial shutdown of the federal government.

A Monday afternoon rally is planned outside downtown Chicago's Federal Plaza. It will include federal civilian employees represented by the American Federation of Government Employees. Their protest rally slogan is “Stop the Lockout.”

The shutdown possibility stems from a conservative challenge to the president's health care law. The Senate has the next move on must-do legislation required to keep the government open past midnight Monday.

The last government shutdown was 17 years ago.
