Police officer hurt in Vernon Hills fire

Approximately six families were displaced and a Vernon Hills police officer was injured after a fire at an apartment complex in Vernon Hills Thursday. According to information provided by the Countryside Fire Protection District, firefighters responded at 3 p.m. to a fire on the 900 block of Commonwealth Court. Full story

Ex-Mundelein police chief now Lake undersheriff

A lingering question about the intentions of former Mundelein Police Chief Raymond J. Rose was dispelled Thursday with his appointment as Lake County Undersheriff. Sheriff Mark Curran named Rose to the post that has been vacant since November 2011 with the retirement of Charles Fagan. Such appointments are within Curran’s authority as an elected official and are not subject to a county board vote. Full story.

No more alcohol at Benedictine

The roughly 700 Benedictine University students living on the school’s Lisle campus have until 10 p.m. Friday to rid their rooms of all alcohol. The mandate comes as part of a new university policy announced Thursday that bans alcohol possession and consumption in all campus housing areas. Full story.

Tollway employees fired for bullying, growing pot

An Illinois tollway employee growing marijuana — although not on the premises — and maintenance workers going AWOL were among the findings in a semiannual report by the agency’s inspector general issued Thursday. There was even a case of bullying. Full story.

Two crashes have been reported on Roosevelt Road this morning, one at Main Street in Lombard and another at Route 59 in West Chicago. A crash on eastbound I-90 near Barrington Road also is causing delays beginning at Route 25, and an accident has been reported at Park Avenue and St. Mary’s Road in Libertyville. Construction projects on Randall Road near Big Timber Road and on Route 59 in Naperville and Aurora will continue to slow drivers in those areas. Full story.
