Residents Input Requested For Des Plaines River Trail Plan

The City of Des Plaines, in partnership with the Northwest Municipal Conference, Wheeling, Northbrook, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Glenview, and Park Ridge, is creating a plan for improving access to the Des Plaines River Trail, a multi-use trail that follows the Des Plaines River through portions of Lake County and Cook County. This planning effort focuses on the portion of the trail between Higgins Road and Lake Cook Road. The plan will explore accessibility by all modes of travel, walking, biking, transit and automobile.

Community members are encouraged to share their ideas by completing an online survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DesPlainesRiverTrail and/or creating a customized map through the project website which can be accessed via the Northwest Municipal Conference’s website at http://www.nwmc-cog.org. The online survey asks questions about how people use the trail today and how they would like to access the trail in the future. The map allows users to pinpoint their ideas, illustrate specific areas they like along the trail, and areas that are in need of improvement.

The final plan will serve as a guide for these communities as they work towards making a trail that is easy for people to access no matter what mode of travel they choose.
