Solid Waste Agency to host annual Recycle-O-Rama in Lake

The 2013 Recycle-O-Rama will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Lake County Division of Transportation in Libertyville. Courtesy of SWALCO

Recycle-O-Rama was created by the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County to help residents find “homes” for hard-to-recycle items that can’t go curbside and to help educate people about the importance of recycling.

Each year, the agency has literally collected tons of materials that have been kept out of the landfills. All the materials collected at the event will be either reused, repurposed or recycled.

It’s a unique opportunity for people to drop-off numerous items all in one place and at one time. This event is free to all residents and is co-sponsored by Lake County and the Lake County Health Department.

The 2013 Recycle-O-Rama will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Lake County Division of Transportation, 600 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville.

Accepted items for recycling and reuse, including electronics; cellphones; household batteries; eyeglasses; hearing aids; CDs, DVDs and cassettes; bicycles and bicycle parts (for donation to local charity project); propane tanks; fire extinguishers; marine, RV and automotive batteries; paper documents for shredding (up to four copy-paper sized boxes until truck is full); stuffed animals; clothing; textiles, including sheets, towels and blankets; smoke and C0 detectors/alarms; shoes, excluding roller blades and ice skates; keys; children’s car seats; laser and inkjet cartridges; new or gently used prom dresses, which will be donated to Glass Slipper Project; colored markers and highlighters that will be turned into fuel/energy; beads and buttons.

Only listed items will be accepted. Items not listed here will be turned away. You can also find out more, including a downloadable/printable flyer with a list of accepted items, on the SWALCO website, swalco.org.
