Women's barbershop groups to perform in Batavia

Submitted by Harmony Inc.

Montessori Academy, 595 S. River St. in Batavia, will host a show with two award-winning women's barbershop groups from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

Foreign Exchange is the 2011 Harmony Inc. International Quartet Champion. This winning quartet of young women come about their name honestly as they are Canadian, Dutch and American. While barbershop singing is a blend of four distinct parts, you will have a hard time hearing four different voices. This quartet blends chords so tightly and perfectly as only true international champions can, you will be hearing only one beautiful sound.

Donations are welcome. There will be refreshments afterward.

Warming up the audience will be the Misty River Music Makers. This chorus is a favorite around the Fox Valley. Perhaps you have seen them around town at a local event or a Cougars' game, or at your own community group event. The Misty River chorus is fresh off their recent win of “Best Small Chorus” this summer at their area contest sponsored by the International organization of Harmony Inc.

Harmony Inc. formed during the 1960s as a women's barbershop organization which accepted all races and creeds. It continues to pride itself on its competitively friendly, social and educational milieu.

Misty River Music Makers, a nonprofit organization, hosts regularly scheduled rehearsals at 7 p.m. Mondays. Misty River is a chapter of Harmony Inc., an international women's organization devoted to a cappella singing in the four-part barbershop style. For details, visit mistyrivermusicmakers.org.

All women ages 13 and older with a love of music and the ability to carry a tune, are invited to visit a rehearsal.
