Cool Cruisers & Hot Dogs

Cool Cruisers & Hot Dogs, a car show benefiting the Boy Scouts of America Northwest Suburban Council's Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) Program, will be hosted 10 AM – 2PM, Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Rand Red Hots, 1441 Rand Road.

The Boy Scouts of America Northwest Suburban Council launched STEM earlier this year as an initiative to provide science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs within the scouting framework. Since its initiative, over 250 scouts have participated in activities ranging from building their own cell phone chargers to flying airplanes. One hundred Cub Scouts attended science camp in June where they conducted poolside experiments to learn about air and water pressure. Fifty Boy Scouts and Venturers attended STEM camp in August, learning about robotics, automotive maintenance, astronomy and aviation. Cool Cruisers & Hot Dogs provides a public setting for the scouts to come together with the community to highlight STEM.

The auto show is spearheaded by Scott Dueball, a local car enthusiast, Eagle Scout, biomechanical engineer at Life Fitness and founding member of the Boy Scout Council's STEM committee. “Throughout college and now in my daily work, I continue to use the many valuable lessons and programs, such as STEM, which I experienced thanks to the Boy Scouts,” Dueball said.

According to Mayor Bogusz, who, in 2004, was awarded his Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting Program, the purpose of Cool Cruisers & Hot Dogs is to showcase the many “great” programs available to youth through the Boy Scouts of America while enjoying modern classic automobiles and hotdogs.

“I learned a great deal as a Boy Scout in Des Plaines. I'm excited to support one of their latest programs, designed to interest young men in science, technology, engineering and math,” Mayor Bogusz said.

Individuals having vehicles (from 1988 or older) that they wish to feature in Cool Cruisers & Hot Dogs need to register online at www.nwsc.org/STEM.php or email by October 1, 2013. “I encourage and invite everyone to come out to Cool Cruisers & Hot Dogs at Rand Red Hots. Whether you are a vehicle exhibitor, a sponsor or a guest enjoying the cars and a hotdog, this will be an enjoyable community event and an opportunity to find out more about the positive programs, such as STEM, offered through the Boy Scouts of America Northwest Suburban Council,” Mayor Bogusz said.
