Celebrate America at gala Oct. 5

Submitted by Centro de Informacion

Centro de Informacion will be “Celebrating America” at its gala on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Centro serves just under 16,000 individuals each year, predominantly low-income Hispanic immigrants, by providing a variety of services including assisting people on the path to American citizenship through naturalization. Centro will honor people and organizations that support the value of this important work. Centro is proud to announce this year’s gala honorees.

Mayor David Kaptain of Elgin and Mayor Rodney Craig of Hanover Park will be recognized individually as they and the governmental entities that they lead have provided resources and support for a number of years not only to Centro but also to the Hispanic community. Their support has always been based on committed partnerships to benefit the communities.

Hanover Township Government will receive the Partnership Awards for its longtime commitment to Centro de Información and the Hispanic community. They have funded a variety of significant programs including Centro’s Mental Health program, after-school tutoring and community nurse services. Township Supervisor Brian McGuire and the entire staff have made a positive impact in the community for many years.

The Elgin Fresh Markets on Summit and McLean headed by Bob Tzotzolis and Frank Paganis will receive the Corporate Award because of their strong support not only to Centro de Información, but also to the Hispanic community of Elgin. The Elgin Fresh Market has backed significant projects and worked in a variety of ways for many years. Last year, they provided the food at cost for the annual Thanksgiving Food Basket giveaway to 150 needy families, and this year they will donate the food entirely. The Elgin Fresh Markets epitomizes “giving back to the community.”

In addition to honoring supporters, the gala will feature great food, music and tremendous auction items such as a one-week stay at Hilton Head, a Zulu Safari and a Helicopter Ride. There are hundreds of great items.
