Panel in Buffalo Grove discusses death’s impact on children
Chicagoland Young Widowed Connection, along with the Lauri S. Bauer Foundation for Sudden Loss and Willow House, will co-host Advocating for Your Grieving Child in the School Setting 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Twin Groves Middle School, 2600 N. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove.
The panel is aimed at widowed parents who may struggle with how to help their child succeed in school while grieving the death of a parent. The discussion will help parents understand how child development impacts grieving and which school programs have helped children dealing with these issues. Widowed parents will share the challenges they have dealt with and their successes as advocates and a student will discuss how she has dealt with her father’s death and the impact on her school experience.
Speakers include founder and executive director of Willow House Stefanie Norris, Twin Groves Middle School Social Worker Nadine DiMare, Scott Bauer, parent of school-aged children, and Genevieve Liu, high school student. The event is free and no RSVP is necessary.
