Barrington Scarecrow Festival fun for the entire family

The village of Barrington’s 13th annual Scarecrow Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, in Memorial Park on South Hough Street.

Over 500 people are expected to attend this family-friendly fun event in the Village Center. Free activities for children included scarecrow building, pumpkin painting, pony rides, arts and crafts, balloon animals, face painting, cookie decorating, inflatable games, children’s games and so much more.

Bob the DJ will be on hand to delight the crowd with his special costume and favorite spooky songs. Materials for scarecrows will be provided, and festival goers can bring clothing and accessories to personalize their creations.

The event is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Kooker’s Restaurant will be on hand with lunchtime fare, including grilled hot dogs, burgers and brats, chips and drinks, available for purchase. Kaleidoscoops will be there with their assortment of ice cream, also for sale.

Vote for your Favorite Scarecrow

Scarecrows will begin appearing throughout Barrington at the end of September. Over 60 merchants have created original scarecrows to adorn their store fronts and businesses. Residents and visitors are invited to vote for their favorite scarecrows, beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and ending Oct. 31.

To vote for your favorite scarecrows, go to the village’s website at www.barrington-il.gov. Click on the Quick Link — Scarecrow Voting. Photos of all of the scarecrows will be posted. Click on the photo of your favorite scarecrow, hit “send,” and a vote will automatically be cast. Vote for as many as you like. Winners will be announced on the Village website on Friday, Nov. 1.
