Psych exam under way for Naperville mom charged in child slayings

The baby sitter charged with stabbing two children to death in Naperville has undergone a psychological evaluation, authorities said Friday.

Elzbieta Plackowska was recently interviewed by a psychologist hired by prosecutors, DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin said.

“We hope to have (a final assessment) by the end of October,” he told Judge Robert Kleeman in court.

Prosecutors can request psychological screening of a defendant when they have reason to believe insanity might be raised as a defense. Plackowska's lawyer also can seek an independent exam.

The 41-year-old Naperville woman is accused of repeatedly stabbing Olivia Dworakowski, 5, and her own son, Justin Plackowski, 7, in October 2012. Police said she killed them while baby-sitting at the younger child's home.

Plackowska remains jailed without bond and has pleaded not guilty. Her next court date is Nov. 8.
