Man convicted of trafficking guns to Chicago
A South suburban man was convicted of a series of gun charges after authorities say he illegally trafficked hundreds of high-powered weapons into Chicago.
David Lewisbey, 23, was convicted Friday of dealing firearms without a license. He was also convicted of two counts of illegally transporting firearms across state lines and two counts of interstate travel to sell guns without a license.
The South Holland man faces up to 35 years in prison when he’s sentenced Dec. 10.
Prosecutors say Lewisbey visited gun shows in Indiana and returned with duffel bags full of weapons. He had no criminal record and was able to legally buy the weapons, which authorities say he later turned over to co-defendants.
Three other people have pleaded guilty in the case.
Lewisbey’s lawyer says he’ll appeal.
