Author to kick off Aurora University series

The eighth season of the Celebrating Arts and Ideas series will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, with a presentation by editor and author Jon Meacham.

The free lecture is open to the public and will take place in Crimi Auditorium, 407 S. Calumet Ave.

Meacham is the author of “Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power,” a No. 1 New York Times best-seller that has been named one of the best books of 2012 by The New York Times Book Review and The Washington Post.

He also is the author of “American Lion,” the best-selling 2008 biography of Andrew Jackson, which earned him the Pulitzer Prize. His other books, “Franklin and Winston” and “American Gospel,” are New York Times best-sellers as well.

“Continuing our tradition of hosting insightful and distinguished speakers on campus every year, it is a pleasure to welcome Jon Meacham to Aurora University,” said Sarah Russe, vice president for community relations.

“His knowledge and understanding of history and literature, combined with his sense of humor, are sure to provide for an entertaining and intellectually stimulating evening.”

Executive editor and executive vice president of Random House, Meacham is a contributing editor to Time magazine, a former editor of Newsweek, and has written for The New York Times and The Washington Post, among other publications. He is a regular contributor on “Meet the Press,” “Morning Joe” and “Charlie Rose.”
