Country band to perform free at Scarecrow Festival

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the Hoffman Estates Park District will host its annual Scarecrow Festival from noon to 3 p.m. at Vogelei Park, 650 W. Higgins Road.

In addition to a whimsical scarecrow display, country band Billy Croft & the 5-Alarm Band will perform from 1 to 2:30 p.m., in the pavilion. With four vocalists and a blistering rhythm section, they offer music from the latest hits on the country charts to rock legends like The Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, country classics to their own rockin’ originals.

Bring a blanket or chairs. Admission is free.

The festivities of the day will also include a climbing wall, safety town exploration, crafts, snacks, and so much more.

Enter the Scarecrow Contest

The festival’s Scarecrow Contest is sure to bring out the best in creativity and creepiness with everything from the charmingly classic to the unimaginably ghoulish.

There are three categories of judging: Family/Individual, Business and Community Organization. This contest is free to enter.

Businesses who submit a scarecrow to the contest may also set up a table to promote their business for just $20.

Scarecrows will be judged on originality, creativity and presentation. The winners in each category will receive a prize. The winner in the Business Category Scarecrow Contest will win a free Business Card-sized ad in the park district’s Winter Guide which comes out Nov. 15 and is delivered to every household in Hoffman Estates.
