St. Mary Knights provide rosary honor guard
Submitted by St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus
On Aug. 13, the St. Mary Family Ministry participated with a family reciting each of the five decades of the Rosary. The St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society sponsors a monthly Family Rosary held on the second Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the church on Dundee Road. An honor guard is provided by the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus.
The Knights are privileged to provide an honor guard during the recitation of the rosary since the Knights of Columbus are consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Every new member of the Knights receives a rosary and is asked to carry the rosary at all times since the rosary is very much at the heart of the Knights of Columbus.
The rosary is a gospel centered-prayer. The “Joyful,” “Luminous,” “Sorrowful” and “Glorious” mysteries recall the whole life of Jesus and Mary. Bringing families together to contemplate the mysteries of the faith strengthens the faith of each of the members and they will be able to counter the false teachings presented to them.
Through this devotion, families are able to see the value of Mary's presence in their lives. They come to know that they are able to count on her motherly intercession for everything necessary to grow in their spiritual lives. They also grow in confidence that as their mother, she will not remain indifferent to the needs in their material life as well.
The St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society is a spiritual organization open to all members of the parish. The members of this group also have Masses celebrated for the members of their society and raise money to contribute to various parish ministries.
The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.8 million members in over 14,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 70 million volunteer hours and $167 million in charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, families and youth.
