Top horses to compete at Hunter Derby in Antioch

The 2013 Chicago Hunter Derby presented by Chicago Equestrians for a Cause will take place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8, at Annali Farm, 18752 Edwards Road, Antioch.
The event will feature the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby sponsored by Canadian Pacific, in which some of the top horses in the country will compete, as well as shopping from many exclusive vendors and activities for everyone.
Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, guests can watch two rounds of action in the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby presented by Abba Vet Supply. General Seating is available for a suggested donation of $25 at the door.
At noon, Chef Paul Catering will treat spectators to lunch. The first horse will be on course for the first round of the International Hunter Derby at 2:30 p.m.
From approximately 5-7 p.m., everyone is welcome to attend a cocktail party with food by Tamales Catering. Gene and Georgetti will provide the refreshments for the evening, topped off by entertainment from the band blitzFM.
Sunday brings the second round of the International Hunter Derby and more events. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. for VIP table and ticket holders to start shopping and socializing. A brunch buffet will be served at 11 a.m. The first horse on course will be at 1 p.m. for the Handy Round of the USHJA International Hunter Derby.
Sunday will also feature events for children, including a Horseless Horse Show at 11 a.m., along with a petting zoo, face painting and hot dog cart.
Tickets for a raffle will be sold both days, with prizes including a weekend experience with a Land Rover, a weekend getaway at the Peninsula, and more. Ann K. Hubbard’s Tack Shop will be matching the proceeds from the raffle.
The event will benefit three charities: Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, The United States Hunter Jumper Association Foundation, and the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation.
