Harlem Ambassadors come to North Chicago
They can spin the ball on a finger; they can dunk and entertain the family while teaching kids skills both on and off the court. They are the internationally acclaimed Harlem Ambassadors and they are returning to the North Chicago area. Come meet-and-greet the team from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 1801 Sheridan Road, Suite 103, North Chicago.
The Exchange Club of North Chicago will sponsor the Harlem Ambassador’s meet-and-greet; which kicks off the weeklong training camp during the second week of September.
During the week the team will appear on local television/radio shows and visit local schools for “say no to drugs and stay in school” assemblies. Slated schools/groups are: Forrestal Elementary School, Neal Math and Science Academy, A. J. Katzenmaier Elementary, North School, Daisy’s Resource Optional School, and the Puerto Rican Society. Team members will talk about life lessons they’ve learned in hopes of inspiring students to stand up against peer pressure, avoid drugs and stay in school.
Several organizations will co-sponsor this weeklong event: the College of Lake County, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #131, Children Of Purpose and PamDell.
The Harlem Ambassadors offer a unique brand of Harlem-style basketball, featuring highflying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks and hilarious comedy routines. The Ambassadors set themselves apart from other “Harlem-style” basketball teams by working with local not-for-profit and service organizations and holding Harlem Ambassadors shows as community fundraising events. For North Chicago’s event, the Ambassadors have partnered with The Exchange Club of North Chicago to help raise funds to assist with the prevention of child abuse and other local programs and services.
The game will take place from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in the North Chicago High School Gym, 1717 17th St., North Chicago. Tickets are $5. Children 5 and under are admitted free.
