Join Grayslake Lions for slow-cooked beef at 50th steer roast
Grayslake’s Lions Club branch is inviting the community to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its steer roast.
Slow-cooked beef will be the star of the show from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Grayslake Middle School, off Route 83, just north of Center Street. Visitors may dine in or request carry out.
The community steer roast fundraiser for the Grayslake Lions Club and its associated foundation began in 1963. All of the proceeds are spent to support the sight and hearing-impaired, along with other endeavors in the Grayslake area.
Lions have assisted with scholarships for graduating seniors at Grayslake’s high schools. They also help with eye exams and eyeglasses for students at the elementary and high school districts serving Grayslake who cannot afford the cost.
Free eye testing will be done at the steer roast from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Beef is slow-roasted overnight above a charcoal pit. Other menu offerings include corn on the cob, baked potato, fresh tomatoes and dessert.
Shredded beef will be on sale by the pound. Dog bones also will be for sale.
Tickets are $12 for ages 12-61, $11 for ages 62 and older, and $6 for children ages 5-11. Visit www.grayslakelionsclub.org.
