Elk Grove Village traffic campaign nets arrests

Elk Grove Village police made several arrests — including one for driving under the influence and six for driving on suspended or revoked licenses — during a special traffic enforcement campaign held in conjunction with the Labor Day holiday.

Between Aug. 16 and Sept. 2, the police department assigned officers to several enforcement areas where a zero-tolerance stance was taken against impaired drivers and occupant protection violations. One hundred and forty-eight traffic stops were made in these areas.

In addition, the Elk Grove Village and Arlington Heights police departments partnered to conduct a roadside safety check near the 800 block of Elmhurst Road between 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 and 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.

The purpose of the campaign was to identify motorists operating vehicles that have defective equipment, licensing and insurance violations, and those who drive under the influence.

Besides the DUI and revoked/suspended license arrests, officers also made 16 arrests of people driving without a license. They also issued citations for driving without insurance (17), without a seat belt (74), with no proper child restraint (1), speeding (14), and 31 other moving violations and 69 other non-moving violations.

The campaign is funded through a grant administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
