When to collect native plant seeds this fall with CFC
On Sunday, Sept. 8, Citizens for Conservation restoration volunteers will begin its fall seed collecting schedule: 9-11 a.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays, and 3:30-5 p.m. Sundays. Volunteers meet at Citizens for Conservation headquarters, 459 W. Highway 22, Lake Barrington, the white farmhouse with a silo across from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. This schedule runs through October.
Volunteers of all ages can collect seed; it’s a great fall family activity. New volunteers are welcome. CFC collects seed of a wide variety of native plants and use them in its preserves in the Barrington area. They also share seed with many nonprofit organizations for local restorations.
