Submitted by Lazarus House Center
Lazarus House will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Center for Transitional Living at an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at 214 Walnut St., St. Charles.
There will be a rededication of the center at 11:30 a.m. followed by a short program. The community is invited to visit with staff and board members to learn more about the center and other Lazarus House programs and to tour the CTL, Emergency Shelter, Women and Children’s Day Center and Community Resource Center. Refreshments will be served.
Lazarus House is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization serving people who are connected to St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia and western rural Kane County. Through its programs, Lazarus House provides a “continuum of care” to help people regain independence. The Emergency Shelter and Women and Children’s Day Center provide a safe living place for people who are homeless. The CTL, which features 12 dormitory-style rooms and a structured program, is the next step after the Emergency Shelter in helping people regain and maintain successful, independent living. People may live in the CTL for up to two years. The Outreach program, administered from the Community Resource Center, provides grant-funded rental subsidies to qualifying people so they can remain in their apartments. Lazarus House also serves as a soup kitchen for the food insecure from the immediate area.
Last fiscal year, Lazarus House sheltered an average of 53 people every day and subsidized an average of 37 households monthly. Across all programs, it served 375 people.
