Community celebrates at library open house
Sunday is typically a busy day at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, but on Aug. 18, the crowd swelled for an open house that celebrated the newly renovated library. The party atmosphere offered activities for all ages and highlighted all the new ways residents can use the library for gathering, learning and creating.
Visitors were able to try out new technology at the Tech Bar and attend mini tech classes in the Training Center. Popular features included an author fest with 14 local authors, a meet and greet with Arlington Heights artist Joe Burlini, and food demos performed by Dave Esau from Dave’s Specialty Foods, and Jennifer Downing, food consultant from Nourish.
Kids and teens participated in math games and an origami DIY project. Families had fun photos taken at the Kids’ World photo booth and in the studio where they were added to the library’s digital guest book.
Outdoors, visitors could tour the bookmobile and explore a Dodge Viper while learning about the library’s resources for automotive repairs. A drawing was also held for prizes that included an iPad, Nooks, and gift cards funded by the Friends of the Library.
If you missed the open house, residents are encouraged to drop by the library or visit the website, www.ahml.info, to learn more about all the great ways to use the library.
