Athletes of all kinds compete in GLASA 5K

The Twilight Run/Walk/Roll and Post-Race Party is the largest Chicago Area Runners Association certified 5K race in Chicagoland featuring disabled and nondisabled athletes competing side-by-side.

Team registrations are also available this year. The purpose of the event is to provide exposure to the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association and an opportunity for athletes who have physical disabilities or visual impairments to embrace the GLASA motto of “Let No One Sit on the Sidelines.”

The race will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. The start and finish of the race is the Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest, with the actual race winding through the streets of east Lake Forest.

Multiple divisions include age group awards for runners, as well as for manual wheelchairs, racing chairs and hand cycles, ambulatory, amputee and visually impaired.

A post-race party will be held with beverages, food and a live band.

Registration is now open; visit www.glasa.org/twilight/register.php. Registration is $25 until Sunday, Sept. 1, and $30 after.
