Office Mini-Golf Putt's Team Building on the Tee

Team building takes different forms at different companies but in the Oak Brook district office of Northwestern Mutual a round of office miniature golf ensured fun competition for players at all levels. Foursomes of financial representatives and staff were selected through a random drawing, creating a spirit of camaraderie, not to mention, fair competition among co-workers, noted Corey McQuade, managing director.

While the office putt-putt course, designed by Elizabeth Stocking, director of development, and Shea Bubeck, marketing coordinator, did not feature a clown mouth, sand trap, or water hazard, strategically placed plants, waste cans, and filing cabinets proved challenging to some. Yet others, namely Mark Bernthal, financial representative; Kathleen Ryan, new representative support; and Brendan O'Malley, college financial representative scored the desirable hole-in-one. The course's halfway house was a favorite draw providing a made to order omelet station and other breakfast items to start the day.

The idea for the event came from a genuine desire to strengthen the bonds among the staff and financial representatives who work in the district office, noted McQuade. “Our company culture is what makes us successful. As we grow as a district office, we place a lot of emphasis on our guiding principles to support each other, which is only enhanced with a team building activity such as this,” he adds.
