CFC celebrates Flint Creek Savanna’s 25th anniversary

Citizens for Conservation will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Flint Creek Savanna from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at CFC Headquarters, 459 W. Hwy. 22, in Lake Barrington.

Join CFC for educational prairie walks and family fun activities, including a native folklore storyteller, a folksinger, a giant soap bubbler, a nature scavenger hunt and kids’ nature crafts. All ages are invited; wear walking shoes.

The day’s activities include:

Ÿ 1 p.m.: Proclamation, Village of Lake Barrington Trustee.

Ÿ 1:20-2:30 p.m.: Prairie tours start every 15 minutes. Tours are small groups of 5-6 and take about 45 minutes.

Ÿ 1:30-3 p.m.: Will Kruger, folksinger, songwriter.

Ÿ 1:30-3 p.m.: L.L. Bean “Talking Trash” exhibit.

Ÿ 2-3:30 p.m.: Glowby, giant soap bubbler.

Ÿ 3:30-4:45 p.m.: Jeannie Hanson, folklore storyteller.

Ÿ 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Kids’ nature crafts, bookmark and scavenger hunt.

Ÿ 1-4 p.m.: CFC exhibit table.

Ÿ 1- 5 p.m.: Nature photo contest, with voting by visitors.

All activities are free and celebrate Flint Creek Savanna, CFC’s award-winning restoration and largest and most diverse preserve. The savanna embraces nearly a mile of creek course, four oak and hickory groves and acres of restored wetlands and prairie.
