Gynecologic Oncologist and Surgeon Alok Pant, MD Joins Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and Northwestern Grayslake

Gynecologic oncologist and surgeon Alok Pant, MD, has joined the medical staff of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. Pant will see patients and administer chemotherapy treatment at Northwestern Lake Forest's Hunter Family Women's Center and at Northwestern Grayslake. He also holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Pant brings expertise in the DaVinci Robotic System to the surgical oncology program at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. Pant specializes in treating ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, pre-invasive diseases and trophoblastic disease. He uses the minimally invasive DaVinci Robotic System for cancer patients and for those with benign conditions such as uterine fibroids and pelvic masses.

“Dr. Pant brings experience and expertise in using the latest, minimally invasive technology in cancer surgery,” said Michael G. Ankin, MD, FACP, FCCP, a pulmonologist at Northwestern Lake Forest and the hospital's vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer. “He will continue his research interests at Feinberg School of Medicine, keeping Northwestern Lake Forest on the cutting edge of research and technology in cancer treatment.”

Pant received his undergraduate degree in biology from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed a residency in gynecology and obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital and completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

“My goal is to bring the expertise of Northwestern's academic research and care for women with gynecologic cancers to Lake County and the surrounding areas,” said Dr. Pant. “There are significant benefits to patients with the use of the DaVinci Robotic System because it is less invasive and decreases recovery time from surgery. I'm excited to use the DaVinci System at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.”

Pant's clinical and basic science research includes endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer and robotic gynecological surgery clinical outcomes. He is published in several peer-reviewed publications such as Cancer Research, Journal of Chemotherapy and Journal of Gynecological Surgery. He has presented his work in collaboration with other Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine physicians to the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists Annual Meeting on Women's Cancer and to the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, among others.

Pant is the recipient of several awards, including the Excellence in Teaching Award at Johns Hopkins Gynecology/Obstetrics Residency Program in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He was awarded the Excellence in Laparoscopic Surgery Award at Johns Hopkins Gynecology/Obstetrics Residency Program in 2009 and the Excellence in Teaching Award at Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Obstetrics/Gynecology Department in 2011-2012.
