Friends raise money to honor Buffalo Grove firefighter

Local firefighters, family and friends will come together Sunday, Aug. 25, at Eddie’s Restaurant & Lounge, 10 E. Northwest Hwy., Arlington Heights, to support Buffalo Grove Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan McCarthy, 25, who was recently diagnosed with B-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Over the next three months, he will be undergoing six intense treatments of chemotherapy.

During the event, individuals will have an opportunity to purchase 50/50 raffle tickets and shave their heads to show support for Ryan. At Ryan’s request, all proceeds from the day will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

“We wanted to put an event together to not only support our colleague, but also raise money for an outstanding organization working to help others who battle this disease,” says friend and fellow Buffalo Grove Firefighter/Paramedic Brian Steen.

“We want this day to be a celebration for our friend as he too moves closer to being cancer free,” adds Steen.

This event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is open to everyone.

Checks should be made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and can be dropped off at Eddie’s before, during and after the event.
