More charities join in 16th Heritage Run/Walk Sept. 7

The 16th Heritage Run/Walk in Long Grove involving 10 local charities will be held on Saturday, September 7. The 8:30 AM starting line and the pancake breakfast later will be at Kildeer School on Old McHenry Road in Long Grove. All are welcome to participate by foot or just to have breakfast and a good time while supporting multiple charitable interests.

This year there are two new charities participating, joining 8 others which have taken part in past years. Skin of Steel, NFP, advocates for melanoma cancer patients, supporting research and raising awareness of sun safety. The Anthony James Brust Memorial Foundation supports a scholarship fund to help students attend the Universal Technical Institute for training related to the automotive industry. It memorializes a young man who lost his life in a motorcycle accident in 2012.

Other charities partnering with the Rotary Club this year are the Center On Deafness, the Michael P. Savoca Memorial Foundation, seeking a cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis, the Christopher Steele Foundation, supporting research into brain tumors, OMNI Youth Services, Exodus World Service, aiding newly arrived refugee families, the Mothersʼ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes, and Faith Acres Foundation, which provides food and clothing to those in need in McHenry and Lake Counties.

These are all local charitable efforts which, working together but each

pursuing its own unique goals, present a colorful, spirited, and fun event. Each has its own promotional literature, individual sign-up, and distinctive colored T-shirt.

Lyle Staab, Hawthorn Woods, the President of the sponsoring Rotary Club, recently observed, “This is the broadest range of charitable interests to be represented in the Heritage Run/Walk. Rotarians are proud to be able to support these interests while pursuing the Rotary motto, Service Above Self.”
