Military escort Saturday for 2 Indiana Marines
NASHVILLE, Ind. — A military escort Saturday will carry the remains of two Marine Corps veterans from a central Indiana funeral home to a military cemetery in Madison.
Indiana State Police and local police in Brown, Bartholomew, Jennings, and Jefferson counties will assisting the Patriot Guard Riders with the escort of the remains of Pfc. Manley Winkley and his nephew, Cpl. Lyman Winkley, both of Indianapolis.
Manley Winkley died during the World War II Battle of Tarawa. His remains buried on the island of Betio were recently identified. Lyman Winkley served in World War II and the Korean War.
The escort will leave Nashville’s Bond Mitchell Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Saturday and follow Indiana Routes 135, 46 and 7 before arriving at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison at 1 p.m.
