Northwestern football unveils white helmets

After breaking its bowl game losing streak while wearing all-black helmets, Northwestern will open the season on the road with a new look: white helmets with white pants and jerseys.

School officials unveiled the new look for the Aug. 31 opener at California (9:30 p.m. ESPN2), and the Under Armour design is getting good reviews from NU fans.

According to school officials, NU last wore a white helmet in 1980, then introduced its purple helmet in 1981.
