Auditions set for ‘Nutcracker’ production

Submitted by Dancenter North

Dancenter North’s lavish production of “The Magic of the Nutcracker” is a holiday tradition for many in Lake County.

Every season, talented young dancers attend the auditions hoping to be part of the cast and excitement that comes with rehearsals and performances on the big stage.

Auditions will begin with experienced ballet dancers ages 8 and up on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Dancenter North, 540 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. From those selected at the initial auditions, a casting process will occur over the next three weeks to choose the parts those dancers will perform. From these sessions, the coveted role of “Clara” is selected.

“Every year I am so pleased with the quality of the dancers who audition,” Nutcracker Director and Producer Cheri Lindell said. “They just get better and better. Selecting who will play the role of ‘Clara’ in our 25th anniversary production will be the most difficult decision we will have to make. She needs to be both an actress and a skilled ballet dancer.”

Boys ages 8 to 15 with who are athletic and have acting ability are sought to appear in the “party scene.” They will audition at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, also at Dancenter North.

Adults who can move well and have great personalities are also sought for the vibrant scene. Auditions are at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Dancenter North. Those who have performed in previous seasons of “Nutcracker” are especially encouraged to audition for this 25th anniversary season.
