Take charge of your diabetes with BACOA

The Barrington Area Council on Aging, in partnership with AgeOptions, will offer “Take Charge of Your Diabetes,” a free health education class for adults 55 and over.

The six-week class will be held from 1-3:30 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 23-Sept. 27, at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E. Main St., Barrington.

The program uses the Stanford University Patient Education Research Center’s Diabetes Self-Management Program which has proved successful for diabetes management. Topics covered in the six-week class will include decision-making and problem-solving skills; exercise, managing fatigue, managing pain and stress, nutrition and communications. Medication and treatment decisions will also be discussed.

The program is free, but registration is required; for more information or to register, call Diane in Social Services at BACOA at (847) 381-5030.
