Submitted by Batavia MainStreet

Grab your apron, dust off your pie tins, the first Batavia MainStreet Pie Bake-Off is in the works.

The Pie Bake-Off judging will be part of the North River Street activities during the annual Block Party at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. This event is for everyone — experts and novices alike. Please, no professional bakers. Bake your best pie for your chance to win cash prize and recognition in Neighbors Magazine.

If you are interested in participating call the Batavia MainStreet Office at (630) 761-3528, email the MainStreet Office, or go to DowntownBatavia.com/blockparty for information on how to registered and rules for participation.

The registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 23. There is a $5 participation fee.

The annual Block Party — “Taste of Batavia” is hosted Labor Day weekend by Batavia MainStreet. The “Taste of Batavia” includes a $2 sampler party complete with live music, activities and dancing. The Block Party will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, on the newly streetscaped River Street and the Riverwalk.

This year the theme will be a throwback to the 1950s. So grab your leather jackets and poodle skirts, or your best Marilyn or Elvis get-up (yes we are dressing up for this one) because it is going to be a rockin’ good time. Following the Block Party, check out your favorite spots for after parties with more live music and entertainment.
