Factory fire causes $20,000 in damage

A filter in an aluminum and steel grinding machine caught on fire Friday afternoon at a Mundelein factory and caused an estimated $20,000 in damage, authorities said.

The fire at Larsen Manufacturing, 1201 Allanson Road, broke out at 2:56 p.m. as employees were working on the machine, according to Battalion Chief Kevin McKinley of the Mundelein Fire Department.

The factory’s sprinkler system was able to control most of the fire, and firefighting crews were able to put out the fire after arriving on scene, McKinley said.

The building was evacuated before fire personnel arrived on scene. No injuries were reported.

The reported amount of damage is related to the product employees were working on. Larsen Manufacturing is a precision sheet metal fabrication and precision metal stamping business.
