YWCA Lake County to offer Women’s Health Expo
YWCA Lake County is hosting its 12th Annual Women’s Health Awareness Expo at the Hinkston Fieldhouse, 800 Baldwin, Waukegan, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. The theme is “Take Charge Live Well Be Strong.”
The event is free and open to everyone in the community.
This year’s expo features community agencies, local businesses and health care organizations providing free education.
In addition, there will be health screenings, blood pressure testing, bone density education, blood sugar, cholesterol and body mass index testing. Free mammogram information will be provided through the YWCA Women and Adolescent Girls’ Health program.
“This is a family day expo for all Lake County residents,” Executive Director Janice Bennett said. “We encourage families to see what the YWCA Lake County offers to the community.”
“The mini-massages are the best,” Manager of Women’s and Adolescent Girls Health Lori Deere said. “We will have raffles at many vendor tables and prizes to children/teens/young adults, and a Zumba session along with a Three-on-Three Basketball Contest.”
General admission is free to attend the fair. The Three-on-Three Basketball is a $3.
Free information will be available on all of the YWCA health programs, including breast health, nutrition, osteoporosis, heart health and free services for low income and medically underserved women and families.
YWCA Lake County offers an array of programs specifically designed to meet the unique needs of women and girls. In 2012 alone, the YWCA Lake County offered free transportation and more than 400 free mammograms to uninsured or underserved women. The YWCA seeks to continually make a positive difference in the lives of women and girls throughout the county.
