Palatine man charged in baseball bat attack

A 24-year-old Palatine man faces up to five years in prison after his arrest on allegations he beat another man with a baseball bat over the weekend, Cook County Sheriff's authorities said today.

Albino Damian-Lopez is charged with aggravated battery stemming from an altercation at 11:55 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Norway Lane in unincorporated Palatine Township.

Authorities said investigators learned that a man, later identified as Damian-Lopez, hit a 27-year-old man's face with a baseball bat during an argument, then before running away hit the victim a second time after he fell to the ground.

The Palatine Fire Department took the victim to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries to his left eye and face, sheriff's police said.

Damian-Lopez was arrested Sunday after he turned himself in at sheriff's police headquarters in Maywood. He appeared in court Tuesday, when bond was set at $125,000. He remains in custody awaiting a Sept. 5 court date at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

Aggravated battery is a Class 3 felony punishable by a maximum two to five years in prison. Probation also is possible.
