Hoffman Estates OK’d to immunize underinsured children

Hoffman Estates Department of Health and Human Services has been approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health to continue serving all children, including those who are uninsured, underinsured or have AllKids.

As of Jan. 1, 2013, a cut in state funding only allowed underinsured children to receive vaccines at state-certified health departments. An agreement with Hygienic Institute Community Health Center in LaSalle, Ill., and Hoffman Estates will allow these underinsured children to receive vaccines at village clinics.

The next immunization clinic is a Back-to-School Clinic being held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, for school-age children only. If your child has not received the necessary shots for starting school, please plan to attend this special clinic. Immunization records are required to receive vaccines.

The cost of vaccines is $8 for residents of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg, and $10 for all other communities and cash, check or AllKids only please.

Clinics are normally held the first Monday of each month from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The next clinics will be held on Sept. 9, Oct. 7, Nov. 4, and Dec. 2 from 3:30 p.m. 6 p.m. Baby Clinics for children ages 2 months to kindergarten are for residents of Hoffman Estates only, and appointments are required.

Clinic schedules are available online at www.hoffmanestates.org/clinics.
