Tour of Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery available to veterans

Veterans, service members and their families are invited to be guests of Glueckert Funeral Home’s Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery tour on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The tour is part of the funeral home’s Honoring Their Life and Legacy effort to provide veterans, service members and their families with information regarding military service benefits.

Departing at 9:15 a.m. from Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, and returning at 2 p.m., guests will be provided with comfortable traveling accommodations and the opportunity to socialize with other guests.

A walking tour of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will be given by a cemetery official and immediately following the tour, guests will have a chance to visit the graves of friends and relatives, or memorials.

“Our annual Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Tour is one way Glueckert Funeral Home is trying to make our veterans, service members and families aware of the benefits available to them,” said Jackie Glueckert of Glueckert Funeral Home. “In addition to making the tour educational, we make our guests as comfortable as possible and the opportunity to visit the graves of friends and relatives.”

A box lunch will be served on the return trip to Glueckert Funeral Home and there is no cost or obligation. However, limited seating requires reservations to be made in advance.

Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery is in Elwood, Ill., and spans 982 acres of field and forest containing about 26,600 graves of American military veterans and their loved ones.

Honorably discharged veterans, their spouses and eligible dependent children can be buried in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, or any other VA national cemetery, at no cost to the deceased family. Also eligible are military personnel who die on active duty, their spouses and eligible dependents.

Other burial benefits available for all eligible veterans, regardless of whether they are buried in a national cemetery or a private cemetery, include a burial flag, a Presidential Memorial Certificate and a government headstone or marker, or service medallion for a private marker. Families of eligible decedents may also order a memorial headstone or marker when remains are not available for interment.

To make a reservation call Glueckert Funeral Home at (847) 253-0168. Additional information can be found at www.GlueckertFH.com.
