Million may feature 14-horse field

The last time the Arlington Million featured a 14-horse field was all the way back in 1994.

Well, that number may be equaled next week if all 14 horses pre-entered Friday head to the gate for the 31st running of the Million at Arlington Park.

Over its past five runnings, the Million has averaged just 8.1 starters, with a low of 7 in 2008 and a high of 11 last year.

The Million isn’t the only Festival race to attract a big crowd. A total of 13 are pre-entered for the Secretariat Stakes, while the Beverly D. and the American St. Leger each has 10 horses pre-entered.
