Tiger activity prompts federal lawsuit:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it filed a lawsuit Tuesday in federal court against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service, contending the agency illegally granted permits to Grayslake-based Hawthorn Corporation to export and then re-import 15 endangered tigers to Canada. PETA said the suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. It maintains the federal agency violated the Endangered Species Act because the act forbids the export of any endangered animal unless it enhances the species’ survival in the wild. PETA says Hawthorn is forcing the tigers to perform in circuses.
