Prospect Hts. church celebrates with concert, feast

Glory House will celebrate its 10th anniversary and show the community its new chapel in Prospect Heights this weekend, starting with a concert Friday, Aug. 9.

The international flavor of its congregation — members claim heritage from at least 20 countries — is a source of pride for the nondenominational Christian church.

All activities this weekend are free, said Pastor Joe Kamanda.

The Friday night concert starts at about 6:30 p.m., following ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 5:30 p.m.

The concert will be mainly Christian contemporary, featuring the Glory House choir and other performers.

Many languages are spoken within the choir itself, although most members also speak French, said Anita Cisneros, who is in charge of marketing.

Angela Eciba, the lead singer, learned 10 English songs in a week, she said.

The church started in Evanston, but about two years ago began meeting in a Prospect Heights hotel because most of its 120 members live in the Prospect Heights/Mount Prospect area, said Kamanda.

Saturday’s activities starting at 6:30 p.m. will be more serious, including sermons by Pastor George Jansen of South Africa and Ray Ijisesan, senior pastor of Kingsword International in Chicago.

An international feast featuring dishes from members’ own heritages starts at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11.
