Hoffman Estates supports National Night Out

The Hoffman Estates Police Department encourages you to join your neighbors and celebrate the 30th annual National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 6. You can host a cookout, have a parade, organize a flashlight walk or simply turn on your outside light and relax on your front porch.

The village is supporting two efforts this year. The Barrington Square neighborhood association is hosting a get-together from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at their clubhouse, 1800 Williamsburg Drive. This event will be highlighted by appearances by the Chicago Slaughter professional indoor football team mascot, Sergeant Slaughter; members of the Chicago Soul professional indoor soccer team; the Hoffman Estates Police Explorers; and fire and police vehicles.

A second, smaller gathering will be hosted by Hoffman Estates Police Sgt. Mark Mueller at Sycamore Park, (Lincoln Prairie School), 450 Hillcrest Blvd., from 8 to 9:30 p.m. He will have a barbecue with over 200 kids from a local football league.

Representatives from the Target store located in Hoffman Estates are also supporting these village events by donating water, hosting children activities and other various giveaways.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime- and drug-prevention awareness; strengthen neighborhood, police and community partnerships; generate support for local anti-crime programs; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Talk to your neighbors now to plan an inexpensive, fun event to promote neighborhood spirit and safer streets.
