Lombard is looking to honor senior citizens

The village of Lombard is seeking applications for its annual “Senior of the Year” award.

Now in its eighth year, the award aims to celebrate the accomplishments of seniors in the community. Awards will be presented at the village’s Senior Fair on Oct 2.

Every year, both a man and woman are chosen to receive the award.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding seniors who have contributed to their community. The award was instituted by the late former Village President William “Bill” Mueller and the village’s Community Relations Committee.

“We’re asking Lombard residents to honor local senior citizens by nominating them for Senior of the Year,” said Village President Keith Giagnorio. “Many senior citizens in Lombard are deserving of this award and we want to make sure those individuals are recognized.”

Nominees must have a Lombard mailing address and be 65 years or older. Nominations must include a brief statement, 50 words or less, on why the senior should be considered for this award as well as a short biography of the person.

The winners will be selected by the Community Relations Committee and receive the Village President’s Award and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. The “Senior of the Year” award winner also will be honored by riding in the 2013 Lilac Parade.

The nomination deadline is Sept. 1. All nominations must be received prior to the deadline by the village manager’s office.
