Joliet prison blaze ruled arson
The Illinois State Fire Marshal says a fire at a closed Joliet state prison complex featured in the opening scenes of “The Blues Brothers” was a case of arson.
Fire marshal’s office spokeswoman Milly Santiago told The Herald-News on Thursday that no suspects have been identified. The July 25 blaze destroyed a warehouse that was part of the Joliet Correctional Center.
The destroyed warehouse is one of many buildings in the complex. It was the only one affected by the fire.
The most iconic locations, including historic limestone buildings shown in the 1980 movie and the TV show “Prison Break” weren’t damaged. No one was injured.
The Joliet Correctional Center was built in the 1850s and closed in 2002.
